I live in the Bloomington IL area and want to apply for a position at the State Farm Headquarters in their call center. (I’ve been a stay at home Mom for 11 years and now I want to start some sort of career. Someone told me the call center would be a good way to just get my foot in the door). Their website says they do a “drug screening and a background check”. Does anyone know if the “background check” includes a credit check? I don’t do drugs and I have no criminal background but my credit is far from perfect.

they most likely will do a credit check. Pretty standard now a days.

They are not looking for prefect credit. 600+ should be no problem.

Lower may or may not be an issue. Since you will not be handling money you should be ok.

Credit checks

Credit checks should be done where appropriate but unless the job involves handling or controlling money in some way then such checks will usually be of little value. How an employee handles their own money may have little or no influence on how they perform their job.

Other Licences

It seems that the more respected is the profession, the less inclined employers are to check that licenses to operate in that profession are valid. It sounds incredible but it is possible to find yourself treated by an unlicensed employee simply because noone bothered to check that the license was current and valid.

Academic credentials

Why is it that so many people lie about their academic qualifications and grades to get jobs? Could it be because it will probably work as hardly any employer checks them? Call the college or institution to make sure that the applicant did gain the qualifications that they say they did.

Q&A: Future NRA Member vs. Future Anti-gun politician, who is right?

Now my friend and I were arguing about the pros and cons of carrying a firearm. When I’m 21, I will conceal carry, but my anti-gun friend highly opposes it and we have been arguing about firearms for a while, and usually I win but he did bring up some points that I want to clarify. We live in Nevada by the way.

My friend is 16 and he is the speech and debate club, and he mainly debates about these kinds of things especially politics and rights.

I am 15, and I’m a junior expert member in the NRA. I am educated in the 2nd Amendment, but as minors, there’s more for me and my friend to learn.

My friend and I usually have some arguments, though it can get serious. We mainly do it because it helps him practice for the debate club, and it helps me debate about our rights.

Friend: “DUDE don’t use a gun, use mace, you have no reason to fight back against a criminal”
Me: “It’s everyone’s right to use DEADLY force against a criminal, why use mace, he’ll just run away and a few hours later and mug the next person who isn’t prepared. Kinda hard for him to do that if I shot him in the chest

Friend: “They need to enforce background checks, they should be checked for psychological problems man, and I think they should have a SIX MONTH waiting period to verify this”
Me: “They ALREADY check for this in background checks. And why the hell a 6 month waiting period, the dealers do NOT have the time and money to spend 6 months indivudually verifying the thousands of people who buy guns every day.”

Friend: “A policeman is authorized to SHOOT you if he sees the conceal carry weapon.”
Me: “Well yeah if I’m on a shooting rampage. For one thing he wouldn’t see it if it was concealed, but even if he saw it he can’t do much if I’m not breaking the law. He might question me but that’s about it. ”

Friend: “Private collectors are a huge threat, no way should anybody be able to collect so many guns. Some have MINIGUNS dude, god forbid if he goes on a shooting rampage”
Me: “Yeah really, like he’s gonna keep a minigun in his pocket or something. When was the last time a private collector went on a shooting?
Friend: “None, but we should stop it before it happens, and why do you need so many guns”
Me: “Why not? Guns are collectable too. Guns don’t HAVE to be weapons, they only are if you make them. If they’re sitting in a nice glass case they’re nothing more than novelties. They’re only killing machines if you endanger the lives of innocent people.”

Friend: “I think we should get rid of ranges that are near schools dude, that’s a pretty big threat too.”
Me: “That’s as dumb as someone trying to rob a gun store. You have to be at least 18 to shoot in a range, so like they would let a kid rent a gun and then he runs off with it. For one thing at most ranges the employees are armed, so good luck if he gets far.
Friend: “Um… yeah well you have to be sure as possible”
Me: “That’s kinda why the range employees are armed, and so are the civilians using the range. Have you ever been to a range?”
Friend: “No”
Me: “Have you ever shot a gun?”
Friend: “No….”
Me: “Then you can’t tell me sh*t about people using guns for the wrong reasons if you’ve never fired one, you don’t know how to safely fire one, and you’ve never been to a range.”

Friend: “I think gun owners are paranoid, NOTHING is going to happen. I mean some psycho could go shooting anytime so we should get include psychology in background checks”
Me: “Yeah I’m CLEARLY paranoid for having guns to defend myself with if a psycho could go on a shooting spree like you said. I agree with that psychology thing though.”

My friend wants to be a politician when he’s older, which is why he’s in speech and debate and taking classes such as forensics and etc. However, let’s say 15 years from now, I feel that if I don’t clear his anti-gun views, then I believe that as a full-fledged politican on the issue of gun control, that I, a possibly a politically active NRA Member, will be his biggest opponent.

So my question is, who’s right, me or my friend?
Thank you everyone for your answers, I know my friend and I both have our own flaws in our explanations. Some things I honestly forgot to include in my arguement (I already know about CCW permit), but some of you brought up some very good points (such as the deadly force rule).

I wish there was such a thing. Trust me. Unfortunately there isn’t, seeing as it takes a good amount of time to do a thorough background check. That is why they have certain people paid to do only that instead of letting a computer run through systems and files day in and day out.
